OUR HISTORY

The Lexington Farmers' Market is a cooperative run by a board of directors elected by the membership. It was established in 1975 as the Farm and Garden Market Cooperative Association. We are not part of nor are we supported by the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government or any other entity. We pay all our own expenses including, insurance, advertising and portable toilets. We have the market on leased land two days per week and on a downtown street on Saturday.

The Lexington Farmers' Market, as we are known to our customers, has developed into a four day per week market during the season. The Lexington Fayette Urban County Government has enacted ordinances that have allowed the market to operate and sell the products it sells.

We have 65+ paid members at this time. Many of these farmers come to the market only during the season for their specialty, such as sweet corn or tomatoes and others come year round with value added or an expanded product line.

Our normal season is mid-April until late November.
